Laminate Floor Edge Seal. Gaps typically appear in the joints between the planks and trim. Sealing the perimeter prevents water from reaching the edge of the floor and making its way underneath the laminate boards, where it might be absorbed by the core. A sufficiently flexible silicone sealer that allows the flooring to move prevents water from seeping under the flooring and is good protection in areas prone to spills and moisture, such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Our kitchen has about 1/4in movement along the edges. If this happens, swelling and damage can occur, and this can ultimately lead to the need for a costly replacement. With laminate flooring, areas having high moisture are prone to get floor damage.
